How to input search query

You can input plural condition by splitting space letters. And you can choose the combination of these conditions from "AND" or "OR" operations. In the following picture, space-splitted words "B41J H04N" and selected "AND" operation means "search patents by B41J AND H04N by IPC8)".

IPC8: B41J AND H04N

You can use this syntax to other fields (e.g. assignee, filing date, full-text). Following picture is the patent search condition, "wireless" AND "LAN" in abstract field.

Phrase Search

You may want to search for multiple words in phrases. You can search for multiple words by enclosing phrases in double quotation. For example, when you type a “wireless LAN”, you can obtain the patent including the strict phrase.

Two or more phrases can be input to one search field.

Phrase Search

Wildcard search

The patent can be retrieved with a wild-card (available in the text field and the patent classification.).

  • Mark "?" means one arbitrary character. (IPC8: B4?J)
  • Star "*" shows an arbitrary character string of 0 characters or more. (IPC8: B%J)
Wildcard search

Proximity Patent Search

Patent Integration supports proximity searching of text fields (full-text, abstract, claims, specification). Following figure shows searching for "wireless" and "LAN" within 2 words of each other.

Proximity Patent Search

For example, "Wireless PBX or LAN" was hit.

Weighting Keyword

The weight of the retrieval word in the text field can be changed. The order of displaying the retrieval result can be changed by changing the weight of retrieval word.

For example, the weight of retrieval word "LAN" can be set to five times by inputting to the summary retrieval field as "wireless LAN^5".

Creating a Patent Search Query

Combining searching fields to create searching query. In the following figure, search results includes patents, has "computer" in full-text and "Intel" in assignee fields (AND condition).

Patent Search Query

Supported operators are follows:

+ OR operation.Disjunction.
* AND operation.Conjunction.
- NOT operation.
  • OR operation
OR operation
  • AND operation
AND operation
  • NOT operation

Important Reminder

Important Reminder of Patent Search Query Operator
  • Patent Integration does not put "AND(*) operator" priority over "OR(+) operator". Unless bracket, Patent Integration interpret search query by order "i.e. A+B*C+D*E is interpreted as (((A+B)*C)+D)*E". So a query X+Y*Z is not the same as a query X+(Y*Z). If you use bracket, please notify whether the logical structure of the query is collect or not.
  • X+Y*Z = (X+Y)*Z is as follows
X+Y*Z = (X+Y)*Z
  • X+(Y*Z) is as follows
X+(Y*Z)
