Patent Map Function creates a bibliographic patent map (patent chart) on the basis of the searched population. Visualization function is suitable for middle to small population patent analysis, but is not suitable for large analysis due to natural language noises such as synonym and homophone. Patent Integration enables bibliographic patent analysis of thousands to million patents population. Patent Integration aids patent strategy from college to country level.
We can configure parameters of patent map by patent map wizard.
We can set a chart type (line, column, area, bubble, pie charts) of created patent map. And we can output the patent map as a PDF format or a numeric data. And we can easy to read each patents belonging to each population.
We can create a patent map of a population extracted by Patent Search. Now we create a patent map of a population of United States Patent Granted (IPC-8 = B41J "TYPEWRITERS; SELECTIVE PRINTING MECHANISMS, i.e. MECHANISMS PRINTING OTHERWISE THAN FROM A FORME; CORRECTION OF TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS (composing)"). When we conduct a patent search, the search result control box will be shown on the left side of the Patent Search.
Then click the "ANALYSIS" button to open the analysis menu. And choose the "MAP".
Then the patent map wizard window be popup. We can choose the dimension of the patent map from 1 parameter or 2 parameters. Now we create a patent map of one dimension.
Then set x-axis. We can choose a field of x-axis from the following fields. Now we create a patent map of patent publication transition. So we set x-axis as a "Filling Date".
| KIND | EXP | NOTE |
|---|---|---|
| Filling Date | Plot on the basis of filling date. | |
| Publication Date | Plot on the basis of publication date. | |
| Registered Date | Plot on the basis of registered date. | Available only for GRANTED database. |
| Assignee | Plot on the basis of assignee. | |
| Inventor | Plot on the basis of inventor. | |
| Attorney | Plot on the basis of attorney (agent, firm). | |
| IPC8 (-R) | Plot on the basis of International classification 8 (IPC-R). | Available only for U.S. patents. |

| FI classification | Plot on the basis of FI classification. | Available only for JP patents. |
| f term | Plot on the basis of fterm classification. | Available only for JP patents. |
Patent Integration has an AUTOFILL function shows suitable candidate for creating a patent map. We click "AUTOFILL" button on the right area of the patent map wizard. Then the term becomes Y:1970 M:1 to Y:2008 M:1. This indicates all patents in current population belongs to filling date January, 1970 to January, 2008. This function is good for small population (in the case of filling date range is unknown). We can set a term unit by patent map wizard easily. For example, if we want to create a patent map of short term period patent publication trend, we set TERM UNIT as Y:0 M:3 (3 months).
Then click a "PLOT" button.
A fes seconds later, we obtain a patent map. Note. Patent granted publication includes only issued patents, so the fall down after 2003 does not means a fall down of patent application. Many patents filled after 2003 may be on examination.
All patent maps are stored in local (client) database. We can access created patent map from "HISTROY" of search result control (plotted population) in Patent Search. We can attach comment on these patent maps, and easy to manage these patent maps.
We can choose chart type from following types
| KIND | EXP | NOTE |
|---|---|---|
| Line Chart | It is suitable for trend patent map. | |
| Area Chart | It is suitable for comparison of 2 dimensional line chart. | y-axis plot method selectable |
| Column Chart | It is suitable for various value. | y-axis plot method selectable |
| Bubble Chart | It is suitable for overlook many values. | |
| Pie Chart | It is suitable for compare a share of series. | Available only for 1 dim patent map. |
We can view each patent by clicking plotted point. For example, we click "IBM".
